Info
On 11 August 2027 at The Piece Hall in Halifax, Simply Red bring their smooth, melodic take on British soul-pop to the Summer Funk 27 bill. Built around Mick Hucknall’s unmistakable voice and songwriting, the band moves with ease between blue-eyed soul, soft rock and lighter funk touches, drawing on the run that made them a staple from Picture Book through Stars. Expect a set that leans into both the early punch of “Money’s Too Tight (to Mention)” and the slow-burn emotion of “Holding Back the Years”, with room for the era-defining choruses that followed and the sleek, grown-up groove they’ve kept alive on later records like Blue Eyed Soul and Time.
Soul II Soul join the night with the London collective’s street-soul DNA, still steered by Jazzie B and that original mix of soul, R&B, dance, hip-hop and reggae heritage. Born out of the late-80s sound system and club culture, their sound is built for movement, with the kind of bass-forward swing that turned “Keep On Movin’” and “Back to Life (However Do You Want Me)” into generation markers. A warm-up that sets the tone: rhythm first, hooks close behind.
