On 19 February 2027, Focus will perform at P60, the music venue in Amstelveen, with a set built around their distinctive mix of symphonic rock, jazz influences and classical references. Since their inception in Amsterdam in 1969, around keyboardist and flutist Thijs van Leer, the band has developed a largely instrumental approach: long compositions, abrupt tempo changes, and room for pure virtuosity.
Live, you can expect that typical Focus dynamic: organ and flute building melodies, guitar lines that shift from tight to loose, and rhythms that suddenly take a different turn. The repertoire leans on the classical material from the early seventies, with those idiosyncratic moments that made Focus famous, but also on the later albums with which the band has been active again since the 2000s. An evening for those who love prog that doesn't linger in nostalgia, but keeps moving as a band sound.
