On 12 February 2027, Tom Browne brings his 'Funkin’ For Jamaica' tour to Cambridge Junction, linking up with The Brit Funk Association for a set built on that late-70s/early-80s jazz-funk sweet spot where trumpet lines and dancefloor rhythms meet.
Browne broke through with Browne Sugar (1979) and hit big with Love Approach (1980), home to Funkin’ for Jamaica (N.Y.), a track that still sits comfortably in DJ sets and club playlists. Expect a live run through the grooves that shaped his sound, from Thighs High (Grip Your Hips and Move) and Fungi Mama to the cleaner, radio-ready edge he pushed through the 80s, balancing improvisation with tight, punchy hooks.
Backing him, The Brit Funk Association pulls together key players linked to Beggar & Co, Hi-Tension, Light of the World and Incognito, bringing their own catalogue into the mix with cuts like Time, London Town, British Hustle and Mule Chant #2. The result is a meeting of New York jazz-funk and UK Brit-funk muscle, designed for movement as much as musicianship.
