Info
On March 6, 2027, at Salle Capranie in Ondres, Sona Jobarteh will let her kora be heard as one tells a story: with the long breath of a tradition and the desire to move it forward. Born into a lineage of Manding griots, she has challenged convention by becoming the first professional female virtuoso of this instrument, long transmitted from father to son. On stage, her voice, her kora and her ensemble weave music rooted in West Africa, yet open, nourished by folk inflections, Afro-pop and occasionally jazz touches. Her compositions play with kora motifs, choral textures and meticulously crafted arrangements, balancing heritage with contemporary writing. Beyond the concert, her work also centers on transmission, with a genuine commitment to education and culture in The Gambia.
