On March 23, 2027, corto.alto arrives at Le 106 in Rouen with the project conceived by Scottish composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Liam Shortall, a leading figure on the Glasgow scene. His contemporary jazz confidently brushes up against electro, hip-hop, and soul, in a format where improvisation and production continually respond to one another. On stage, the aim is not to recreate a restrained jazz, but to build a dense and vibrant sound: brass that hooks the melody, beats that push toward the club, electronic textures that appear and then melt into the groove. Collective energy is central, with a way of circulating motifs, letting freer passages breathe, then restarting the machine with rhythms that are more overtly modern. Awarded at the Jazz FM Awards 2025, corto.alto offers a performance at the border between live and the dancefloor, between heritage and the near future.
