On January 22, 2027, Chinese American Bear arrives at Sala B (Madrid) with its bilingual mandopop, playful and wonderfully quirky—in a good way. Behind it are Anne Tong and Bryce Barsten, a couple on and off stage, who turn the home studio into a laboratory of short songs, brisk rhythms and hooks that stick in your head, blending Mandarin and English with ease.
Their pop crosses C-pop and indie with a light psychedelia and a very colorful aesthetic: vivid melodies, nods to new wave, a touch of cartoonishness, and that direct, unpretentious writing style where childhood, family, language, and, yes, food appear as emotional engines. After winning audiences with "好吗 (Hao Ma)" and following up albums such as Wah!!! and Dim Sum & Then Sum, the duo arrives in Madrid at a moment of full road-ready momentum, with experience from international tours and the pulse of a project that sounds intimate even though it comes from afar.
