Richard Galliano « New Viaggio Trio »

Richard Galliano New Viaggio Trio

Do we still need to introduce Richard Galliano, a major figure in European jazz and contemporary accordion? Heir to the great popular traditions as well as to jazz and classical music, Richard Galliano has renewed the image of his instrument by creating a singular, elegant and vibrant musical universe.

Born in Cannes and trained at a very young age at the Nice Conservatory, he established himself in the 1980s as one of France's most inventive musicians of his generation. His meeting with Astor Piazzolla was decisive: encouraged by the master of tango nuevo, Galliano likewise conceived the 'New Musette', a subtle fusion between French tradition, jazz improvisation and Mediterranean influences.

A longtime companion of Claude Nougaro, a collaborator with great names such as Chet Baker, Ron Carter or Michel Portal, Richard Galliano has recorded more than 70 albums and has taken his accordion to stages around the world. He has won several awards, notably two Victoires de la Musique Jazz for his albums 'New York Tango' (1997) and 'Blow Up' (1998), and a Victoire de la Musique Classique as Best Composer of the Year in 2014.

To this day, the artist remains the only accordionist to record for the Deutsche Grammophon label. Between virtuosity, emotion and freedom, this concert at the Espace Malraux promises a musical journey through jazz, tango, French chanson and classical music.
