Cesária Évora Orchestra brings together artists from the Cape Verdean scene to keep a timeless repertoire alive.
Success arrives late in Cesária Évora’s life; she was 50 when the French public was the first to welcome her in the early 1990s, but this was significant. Europe and the Americas succumb to morna, a melancholic and swaying genre typical of Cape Verde, in which she becomes a major figure. Upon her death in 2011, Cesária Évora left a legacy that her musicians have since continued to carry with fervor.
The current lineup of Cesária Évora Orchestra welcomes Mayra Andrade, Elida Almeida, Ceuzany, Lucibela, or Teófilo Chantre, ambassadors of today’s Cape Verdean music, on the La Merise stage on November 7, 2026 at 7:30 p.m.
