Now Wave presents Bodega at The Abbey.
Born in Brooklyn as an extension of the Bodega Bay project, Bodega formed around Ben Hozie and Nikki Belfiglio before adopting its current name at the end of the 2010s. The band sits in an art punk and post-punk lineage, blending nervous indie rock, angular guitars, repetitive rhythmic lines, and phrasing often reminiscent of declamation. Bodega first emerged on New York's DIY scene, with tracks that scrutinize the mechanisms of consumption, cultural habits, and urban behaviors with direct and often ironic lyricism.
Its first album under this name, Endless Scroll, was released in 2018, followed by the EP Shiny New Model in 2019, then Broken Equipment in 2022. In 2024, Bodega released Our Brand Could Be Yr Life, a new version of a collection of tracks originally recorded in 2015 during the Bodega Bay era. Across these releases, Bodega has maintained a dry, taut aesthetic, between arty rock, minimalist tension, and sober melodies, in a band format where the collective dynamic remains central.
