Van Morrison returns to the stage in Bristol on October 12, 2026, for a concert that spans more than half a century of songwriting. Born in Belfast, he first established himself in the 1960s as the voice of Them, between taut rhythm and blues and garage energy, before launching his solo career with the pop sensibility of Brown Eyed Girl. Very quickly, he takes another direction: Astral Weeks and Moondance establish this distinctive blend of soul, folk, blues, jazz and Celtic heritage, driven by a phrasing that can tell a story as readily as it can drift. On stage, Morrison stands out for a free-spirited approach to the song, able to stretch a theme into improvisation or, conversely, to return to short, direct formats. His career has often crossed other traditions, from gospel to skiffle, and fellow travelers ranging from The Chieftains to John Lee Hooker. Expect a set that draws from a rich and prolific discography, from classics to more recent songs, with that same sense of groove and of the voice as an instrument.
