Info
Émile Sornin has a robot in his life—not a love story, but not a friendship either. With 'Melchior, Vol. 1', Forever Pavot tells of this unusual relationship. After several pop albums and soundtracks, Sornin, together with Jonas Euvremer, built the automaton Melchior, who is intended to give interviews and take over social media. Rather than merely a helper, the robot became a creative inspiration for a new album.
Musically, Forever Pavot pursues an electronic, bass-driven course. Melchior appears as a co-writer and with a distorted robot voice. Guest contributions from Lispector and Kumisolo expand the sound, while producer Domotic fuses electronic beats with krautrock influences. In live performances, the band will play at Neue Zukunft in Berlin as a trio, with Melchior as a guest.
Despite the new orientation, Sornin's music remains shaped by film music and classical predecessors. References to Jean-Baptiste Lully, Pierre Arvay, as well as Ennio Morricone and François de Roubaix, connect past and future. 'Melchior, Vol. 1' is an album that sits between retro charm and futuristic pop and marks the beginning of a story that has not yet ended.
