The Besnard Lakes is a band based in Montreal since the early 2000s, formed around Jace Lasek, originally from Saskatchewan, and Olga Goreas, from British Columbia, before taking the form of an expanded group depending on the period. Their music combines indie rock, psychedelic rock, space rock, shoegaze and dream pop, with a taste for dense textures, vocal harmonies and slow developments.
After Volume 1 in 2003, The Besnard Lakes gained attention with The Besnard Lakes Are the Dark Horse in 2007, then The Besnard Lakes Are the Roaring Night in 2010, two records that established an atmospheric sound often crossed by guitar builds. The band evolved with Until in Excess, Imperceptible UFO in 2013 and A Coliseum Complex Museum in 2016, while maintaining this balance between melody, noise and a cinematic breath. Alongside the albums, The Besnard Lakes also worked for image, notably on Sympathy for Delicious and the documentary project Welcome to Pine Point. Their path continued with The Besnard Lakes Are the Last of the Great Thunderstorm Warning in 2021, then The Besnard Lakes Are the Ghost Nation in 2025, in a continuity where dreamy psychedelia, rock tension and crafted arrangements mingle.
