No need to look far to understand the tone of Cactus. By giving this name to his new show, Elie Semoun signals the tone: it’s going to sting. For 30 years, the comedian has established himself as one of the most incisive and offbeat voices on the French scene. His style blends finesse and audacity. For his eighth show at Théâtre Galli, he makes a slight pivot: stand-up takes more space. But Cactus remains faithful to its characters.
Among his new monsters, we meet Jean Abdul, a son who takes his father to visit a nursing home, Xavier, a person with a mobility impairment, a father facing his son’s transition, a racist karate teacher. With Cactus, Elie Semoun offers a vision of our society, addressing intolerance, taboos and injustices with his incisive humor.
