Pokey LaFarge will perform on 18 March 2027 at SPOT/De Oosterpoort in Groningen. The American songwriter (Andrew Heissler) has been building for years his own version of roots music: folk and country blues with the swing of early jazz from the 1920s and 1930s, as if it all comes together naturally. In his songs there are journeys, small scenes and characters; stories that don’t linger in nostalgia, but keep moving forward.
After albums such as Riverboat Soul and Middle of Everywhere, on which he sharpened his acoustic sound with The South City Three, he broadened his palette with the self-titled Pokey LaFarge and later the electric Something in the Water and Manic Revelations. Since Rock Bottom Rhapsody and In the Blossom of Their Shade, more pop, R&B and Latin influences have crept in, a thread that runs through Rhumba Country. Live you can expect a set that keeps rhythm and melody tight, with that loose, danceable drive that makes his music so recognizable.
