On 3 February 2027, The Fabulous Thunderbirds roll into Metronome in Nottingham with the kind of no-frills, road-tested groove that made them a reference point for American blues. Born in Austin in the mid-70s, the band built its name on a tight Texas shuffle, Chicago bite and that extra push of rock’n’roll and soul that keeps everything moving. Early records like their self-titled debut and T-Bird Rhythm helped shape their signature blend, before the wider breakthrough of Tuff Enuff, with cuts like “Tuff Enuff” and “Wrap It Up” landing that punchy, straight-ahead blues-rock on a bigger stage.
At the center is Kim Wilson, co-founder and the only original member still steering the ship. A singer and harmonica player raised on the likes of Muddy Waters, Little Walter and James Cotton, Wilson keeps the set grounded in classic electric blues while letting the band stretch into tougher, more rhythmic territory. Current lineup: Kim Wilson (vocals, harmonica), Johnny Moeller (guitar), Bob Welsh (piano/guitar), Rudy Albin (drums) and Steve Kirsty (bass).
