The Deauville-based Animation Company presents: Elie Semoun. No need to look far to grasp the tone of Cactus. By giving this name to his new show, Elie Semoun makes clear the tone: it's going to sting. For thirty years, the comedian has established himself as one of the most incisive and offbeat voices on the French stage. His style, which blends finesse and audacity, has inspired many generations of artists. For his eighth show, presented at the Théâtre du Casino Barrière Deauville, Elie Semoun makes a slight shift: stand-up now occupies a larger role, a novelty for him. But do not be mistaken, Cactus remains faithful to his taste for characters. Among the gallery of his new characters, you will meet Jean Abdul, who will be his opener, a son who takes his father to visit a nursing home, Xavier, a man with mobility impairment, who introduces his wife to his mother, a father confronting his son's transition, a racist karate instructor, or a biting look at sexual harassment and religion. With Cactus, Elie Semoun offers a vision of our society that is at once deep and light, navigating between violence and inspiration, where the themes of intolerance, taboo and injustice are addressed bluntly, yet always with the incisive edge that characterizes him.
