The Mary Wallopers

On 26 October 2026 at Rock City, Nottingham, The Mary Wallopers roll in with their Dundalk-born take on Irish folk: rough-edged harmonies, banjo up front, and the easy swing of pub tunes turned stage songs. Formed by brothers Charles and Andrew Hendy with Sean McKenna, the group began as an acoustic trio reworking traditional ballads in local bars before growing into a fuller live outfit. The spirit stays the same: collective vocals around sturdy guitar and banjo lines, direct playing, and stories that cut between popular tales, social snapshots and dry humor.

On stage, the set moves between reimagined traditionals and original pieces drawn from A Mouthful of The Mary Wallopers, their 2022 self-titled album and Irish Rock ’n’ Roll. The band’s DIY roots and lockdown livestreams still shape the mood: a living-room intimacy carried into a louder room, call-and-response choruses, and that feeling of songs passed hand to hand. No gloss, no detours, just melody first and words that land, from drinking songs to working lives and small-town mischief, delivered with the bounce and bite of a late-night session.
