Nick Hakim « I Can See Live: In Concert »

On 11 November 2026, Nick Hakim brings his program I Can See Live: In Concert to Gretchen in Berlin. Born in Washington, D.C., and based in New York, the singer and multi-instrumentalist moves between neo-soul, alternative R&B and a psychedelic soul aesthetic, with a supple voice and arrangements that favour a misty, slow and textured approach rather than quick effects.

Shaped by his Chilean–Peruvian roots, Hakim first sang in the church choir, later studied at the Berklee College of Music and attracted attention in 2014 with the DIY EPs Where Will We Go (Part I & II). He followed these with Green Twins (2017) and Will This Make Me Good (2020), on which his R&B opened up to more experimentation, introspective moods and collage-like structures. In 2021 he released Small Things with Roy Nathanson and the Onyx Collective, anchored in a New York scene between jazz, soul and improvisation, before Cometa (2022) rendered his signature sound airier and more organic.

Live, Hakim unfolds his songs in layers of analogue keys, guitars and subtle loops, lets tempos breathe and leaves room for improvisation without losing sight of the melodies. His collaborations with Terence Nance, Erykah Badu, Lil Yachty and Adrianne Lenker demonstrate how effortlessly he brings together songwriting, indie R&B and exploratory approaches. In Berlin he presents these facets concentrated on stage — pared back, intimate and focused on sound and voice.
