Nick Hakim

On 4 November 2026 at Thekla, Nick Hakim brings his singular blend of neo-soul, alt R&B and hazy, psychedelic pop to the stage. Raised in Washington, D.C. and now based in New York, he first surfaced with the self-released EPs Where Will We Go (2014), before the debut album Green Twins (2017) set the tone with slow-bloom arrangements and a taste for texture. Will This Make Me Good (2020) pushed further into collage-like production and introspective moods, while Small Things (2021), made with Roy Nathanson and Onyx Collective, deepened his link to a New York scene where jazz, soul and improvisation cross paths. Cometa (2022) shifted toward a lighter, more organic touch without losing that dreamy grain.

Live, Hakim’s supple voice sits over keyboards, guitar and understated electronics, moving from intimate ballads to loose, exploratory grooves. The set draws on airy melodies, layered harmonies and unhurried tempos, threading together songs that feel tactile and open-ended. Along the way, collaborations with Terence Nance, Erykah Badu, Lil Yachty and Adrianne Lenker sketch the perimeter of his world, where songwriting and exploratory sound meet with quiet clarity.
