Nouvelle Vague

On 6 March 2027 at Band on the Wall in Manchester, Nouvelle Vague return to the UK to present their seventh album, A Date with Depeche Mode. Founded in 2003 by Marc Collin and the late Olivier Libaux, the French collective built its identity by recasting punk and new wave through bossa nova and acoustic pop. For the first time, they devote an entire record to a single band’s catalogue, reworking thirteen Depeche Mode songs with stripped-back arrangements and a new cast of voices.

Recorded in Rio with Brazilian musicians, the album threads light percussion, nylon-string guitars and airy harmonies through Depeche Mode’s melodic skeletons, shifting the focus to groove and intimacy. The first single, Enjoy the Silence, appears as a duet with Skye Edwards of Morcheeba and Larry Love of Alabama 3, reducing the track to its essentials to let the melody breathe. On stage, Nouvelle Vague’s rotating singers and musicians bring these versions into their live language, where close-up vocals, subtle rhythms and minimal textures carry the songs differently. A set centered on this new repertoire, and a fresh chapter for Nouvelle Vague in Manchester.
