Originally from Ohio and now based in Oakland, California, Maria BC has for several years developed a singular body of work at the crossroads of experimental folk, ambient, and indie rock. Anchored by a mezzo-soprano voice and arrangements as delicate as they are unsettling, their universe blends acoustic intimacy, electronic textures, and hypnotic soundscapes.

After the Devil’s Rain EP in 2021 and Hyaline in 2022, Maria BC asserted an artistic identity with Spike Field, their first album released on Sacred Bones Records. Combining spectral folk, orchestral compositions, and sonic experimentation, the album revealed a personal songwriting voice and a distinctive production approach.

In 2026, Maria BC returns with Marathon, their third studio album and second release on Sacred Bones. Born from a sense of urgency, endurance, and resistance, this new record explores themes of survival, exhaustion, personal upheaval, and environmental destruction. Through songs of fragile yet tenacious beauty, Marathon questions our ability to keep moving forward in a world in crisis.
