Axel Bauer

Axel Bauer will be in concert on January 14, 2027 at the Zénith de Pau. A guitarist and singer born out of the new wave movement, he stamped his signature between taut rock and French chanson as early as 1983 with “Cargo,” whose urban imagery marked his debut. Since then he has shaped a guitar-led sound, blending electric pulses, airier atmospheres and French lyrics in which the intimate meshes with observations of everyday life. His albums “Les nouveaux seigneurs” and “Sentinelles” laid the groundwork for a repertoire that later moved toward more melodic pop-rock hues without losing the guitars’ bite.

On stage, Axel Bauer draws from several decades of songs, from “Cargo” to the duet “À ma place,” including “Bad Cowboy” and “Peaux de serpent.” With “Radio Londres” (2022), he returned to darker textures and frontal riffs—ideal material for a set that alternates raw energy with more introspective pauses. At the Zénith de Pau he moves through these different periods, faithful to his trajectory as a singer-songwriter-guitarist who favors continuity over following fashions.
