Skipinnish

Skipinnish bring their Highlands pulse back to Glasgow at Barrowland Ballroom on 5 December 2026. Formed in 1999 by accordionist Angus MacPhail and piper Andrew Stevenson while studying in the city, the band sits where Scottish traditional music meets a contemporary folk sensibility. On stage, accordion, bagpipes, whistles and fiddle set the tone, with songs mostly in English and a steady link to Gaelic culture and the ceilidh spirit.

Over time, Skipinnish grew from a founding duo into a flexible collective, welcoming singers and players from the Scottish folk scene and shaping arrangements that balance dance-driven sets with broader, melodic writing. Their path runs through albums released on their own Skipinnish Records, from early material to The Seventh Wave and Steer by the Stars, mapping a sound rooted in the Hebrides and open to folk-rock textures.

Live, their sets move from driving tunes to unhurried airs and choruses made for voices in the room, carried by pipes and fiddle lines that push and release. In Glasgow, the band returns to a city woven into its story, with a show that leans on tradition without freezing it in place.
