The Bones of J.R. Jones

On 27 February 2027 at The Grand Social, Dublin, The Bones of J.R. Jones returns as a one-man band, between dark folk, taut blues and stripped-down Americana. Behind the name, American Jonathon Linaberry crafts songs made for the road, where his voice carries stories of nature, flight and introspection. On stage he alternates guitar and banjo, punctuating it all with minimal foot percussion, and creates a simple, direct tension that owes as much to the singing as to the dry groove.

His repertoire draws on Dark Was the Yearling, Spirit’s Furnace and Ones To Keep Close, and opens up to the more electric hues of Slow Lightning, recorded between town and countryside. The set moves between woody acoustic ballads and rougher numbers, without losing the chiaroscuro thread that runs through his writing. No showmanship, just precise arrangements and a presence that leaves room for the melodies and the textures of wood and metal. A meeting for those who appreciate songs laid bare, carried by a musician who does a great deal with very little.
