Novastar

Novastar, the project of Joost Zweegers, has for years produced English-language pop rock that moves between piano ballads, spare guitars and melodies tinged with gentle melancholy. After winning Humo’s Rock Rally in 1996, the self-titled debut followed in 2000, with songs like “Wrong,” “Caramia” and “The Best Is Yet to Come,” which firmly established Novastar in Belgium and the Netherlands. This was followed by Another Lonely Soul (2004), partly written with Ozark Henry, and Almost Bangor (2008), on which the songs sounded broader and more band-oriented. After a break Zweegers returned with Inside Outside (2014, produced with John Leckie), followed by In the Cold Light of Monday (2018), Holler and Shout (2021) and The Best Is Yet to Come (2024).

On 28 January 2027 Novastar will play at Musis Arnhem in Arnhem. Expect an evening that covers the full range: old favourites alongside more recent material, from quiet piano themes to bright, melodic rock songs. Sometimes performed as a band, sometimes in a very direct, stripped-back setting around Zweegers himself, but always with the same clear songwriting and without unnecessary frills.
