Bertrand Belin

Bertrand Belin stops off at the MeM in Rennes on 19 March 2027 with a set that extends the grooves opened by Tambour Vision. On stage he works that pliant material characteristic of his style: pop on the border between rock and French chanson, threaded with flashes of jazz and blues. Guitars in chiaroscuro, ascending strings, a tautening tempo — everything converges on the scansion of his deep, precise voice, which places words like anchoring points.

You find themes dear to his writing: that way of linking banks, from 'La Comédie' to 'L’Inconnu en personne', passing through new fragments such as 'Watt'. Film, theatre and literature have nourished his recent trajectory and surface in the playing, in the inner narrative that unfolds between the pieces. The circular structure of his texts, his sense of rhythmic detail, the space allowed for silences and ruptures — all combine to produce a concert in which language matters as much as melody.

Belin advances without unnecessary effect, in conversation with his musicians, creating atmospheres rather than illustrating them. A human-scale journey, carried by the clarity of the songs and an attention to nuance.
