Info

Mavis Staples brings her signature blend of gospel, soul and R&B to Union Chapel, London, on 13 August 2026. Rooted in the family legacy of the Staple Singers and shaped by years walking in step with the civil rights movement, she traces a line between spirituals, protest songs and Chicago grooves. Across decades of work, she has stood alongside Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., sung at a presidential inauguration and later at the White House. She has collaborated with Prince, Bob Dylan, Arcade Fire and Hozier, and shared the stage with The Band at The Last Waltz. In recent years she recorded a run of albums with Jeff Tweedy that highlighted the grain and gravity in her voice. On stage, her set moves from hushed devotion to driving rhythm, carried by lived-in phrasing and steady, unhurried power.

Lucca Mae opens the night. A London singer and songwriter, she blends soul, ska and rock’n’roll with direct melodies and warm, textured vocals shaped on the city’s small stages. Her path nods to mod-leaning influences and contemporary indie soul, with shows across the UK and beyond. In the studio she has worked with drummer Steve White. A tight, hook-led set to set the tone before Mavis steps out.
