Info

De Staat, the Nijmegen-based project led by singer and songwriter Torre Florim, brings its hybrid rock to Thekla, Bristol on 9 November 2026. Their songs stack angular guitars, a compact bass and a tight, almost dance-like pulse. Think post-punk energy, repetitive patterns and choruses that invite chanting, with a songwriting style that navigates between indie rock and a rougher pop. With albums such as Wait for Evolution, Machinery, I_CON, O and Bubble Gum, the sound moved toward more synths without relinquishing the tight band dynamic. Live, it’s about groove and friction: driving rhythms, layers that build and release, and a band that plays tightly and collectively.

Hiqpy opens. The Amsterdam four-piece (Abir Hamam on vocals and guitar, Victor ter Veld on guitar, Tom Radsma on bass and Kasper de Boer on drums) ranges across indie rock, alt-rock, grunge, shoegaze and lo-fi. Thick guitars and direct melodies set the tone; the dynamics shift from pop sensibility to a rough edge. They rose quickly through Popronde and the Dutch club and festival circuit, with appearances at Noorderslag, Paaspop, Best Kept Secret and Into The Great Wide Open, a live release Slachthuis Sessions in 2024 and the single Something in 2025. A young band that breathes the live scene and will share the stage with De Staat at Thekla.
