On 14 November 2026 at Alexandra Palace, London, Bill Ryder-Jones joins the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra to perform If… and other works. First released in 2011, If… was conceived as an imaginary film score inspired by Italo Calvino and recorded with the RLPO; this concert brings the project back to its orchestral source, with Ryder-Jones threading his understated guitar lines and narrative sense through a full symphonic palette. The programme centres on the album’s movements and opens onto additional pieces, shaping a dialogue between his songwriting and orchestral writing.
Since leaving The Coral, Ryder-Jones has explored folk, indie rock and minimalist composition; traces of that path surface here as selected songs from later albums are adapted for the hall. The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, tied to the album’s origins, underpins the music with clear, finely voiced parts, outlining the contours of his pieces while keeping their melodic detail intact. Together they revisit If… as it was first imagined and extend it with works that echo its mood and scope.
