On 22 May 2026 at EartH Theatre in Hackney, Brìghde Chaimbeul joins forces with Nora Brown and fiddler Stephanie Coleman for a co-headline night where Scottish smallpipes meet Southern Appalachian banjo. Together they map the common ground between two traditions, letting drones, modal melodies and old-time rhythms speak to each other through shared tunes, songs and unadorned arrangements.
Nora Brown focuses on southern Appalachian banjo and guitar, drawing on repertoire learned from tradition bearers. Her singing keeps the storytelling close to the surface, while the banjo anchors the pulse. With Stephanie Coleman on fiddle, the duo leans into tight banjo–fiddle dialogues, crooked dance tunes and lonesome ballads, shifting between spare textures and driving lift without crowding the tune.
Brìghde Chaimbeul brings the Scottish smallpipes into fresh focus, rooted in Gaelic tradition yet open to wider currents. Recognised at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, she shapes sets through layered drones and cyclical phrasing, weaving material from Skye and the Highlands with pieces that nod to neighbouring traditions. In this shared bill, her pipes and Brown’s banjo trade space and momentum, showing how two often sidelined instruments carry a deep, adaptable voice.
