Secret Affair and Purple Hearts perform at Roadmender, Northampton, on 13 November 2026 at 7:00 pm.
Mod revival double bill.
Formed from the ashes of power pop band New Hearts, Secret Affair built their reputation with sold-out shows at the Bridge House in Canning Town, London, and with a support slot on The Jam's 1979 tour. Secret Affair went on to have five Top 40 singles: 'Time for Action', 'Let Your Heart Dance', 'My World', 'Do You Know?' and 'Sound of Confusion', and three albums: 'Glory Boys', 'Behind Closed Doors' and 'Business as Usual', released before splitting in 1982. After reforming in 2002, Secret Affair released a new album, 'Soho Dreams', in 2012 and a limited edition 45 cover of Frank Wilson's 'Do I Love You (Indeed I Do)'.
Formed in 1977, Purple Hearts were one of the main bands from the mod revival era along with The Jam, Secret Affair, the Lambrettas and the Chords. Their debut single 'Millions Like Us' hit the UK charts and was followed by 'Frustration'. In 1980 Purple Hearts released their debut album 'Beat That!' along with a single from the album, 'Jimmy', which also reached the UK charts. Two more singles, 'My Life's a Jigsaw' and 'Plane Crash', came out before the band split in 1982.
