Info
BEAT brings the 80s King Crimson songbook to Eventim Apollo, London on 8 June 2026. At the helm, Adrian Belew, voice and guitar of Crimson’s 1981–84 era, reconnects with the jagged riffs, spoken-sung hooks and textural play that marked Discipline, Beat and Three of a Perfect Pair. His knack for elastic melodies, brittle harmonics and left-field noises sets the tone, shifting from tight song forms to more open passages without losing the pulse.
Facing him, Steve Vai takes the other guitar chair with a precision forged in progressive rock and Zappa’s school of odd meters. His phrasing and control slide naturally into Crimson’s interlocking patterns, doubling lines, answering motifs and twisting harmonies without heavy ornament. Together they chase the tension-and-release of that period: circular guitar figures, knotty rhythms, sudden breaks, and electronics that blur edges rather than fill space.
Expect a set built around the Belew years, reworked for this band: talk-sung jolts, gamelan-like loops, angular choruses and fluid instrumentals. It’s a focused dive into the art-rock groove and polyrhythms that reshaped Crimson in the early 80s, carried by two guitarists who know how to keep the machine tight and the surprises alive.
