Info

On 7 July 2026 at The Jam House, Birmingham, King Yellowman steps up with The Upper Cut Band for a live dive into dancehall and reggae. Raised in Kingston and shaped by the Alpha Boys School and the sound system circuit, Yellowman pushed the deejay style to the forefront in the early 1980s with quick-fire toasts and sly wordplay. Singles like Zungguzungguguzungguzeng, I’m Getting Married in the Morning and Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt carried his voice far beyond Jamaica. Across a long-running career he’s moved from raw dancehall into digital reggae and more reflective cuts, keeping that clipped, percussive phrasing over heavyweight riddims.

On stage, expect a set that threads those cornerstone tracks with deeper catalogue and versions, reshaped by call-and-response, ad-libs and sudden melodic turns. The Upper Cut Band locks in the groove with one-drop, rub-a-dub and steppers patterns, giving Yellowman space to ride the rhythm with timing and bite. A direct, high-energy show built on classic riddims and a singular flow, right in the heart of Birmingham.
