David Essex

David Essex OBE brings Thanks for the Memories to Sheffield City Hall in Sheffield on 23 September 2026, a show built around the songs and stories of a career spanning music, film and stage. Singer, composer and actor, he first broke through with Rock On before a run of 70s albums that blended glam-leaning rock and British pop, marked by supple vocals and a narrative touch. The set looks back across those early years and the more melodic pop rock that followed, with echoes of his theatre work too, from Godspell to Jeff Wayne’s The War of the Worlds and Evita.

From East London roots and local bands to lead roles, studio sessions and UK tours, Essex has moved easily between scenes and formats. This date gathers the chapters into one night: familiar singles, overlooked tracks and a handful of anecdotes shared between songs, tracing how that sound evolved and how it crossed stages, screens and studios over the decades.
