Info
St. Paul & The Broken Bones will arrive at Chalk in Brighton on 29 October 2026 with a show rooted in Alabama soul yet wired for the present. Led by Paul Janeway’s voice and Jesse Phillips’s bass, the band advances with a tight rhythmic drive, keyboards and a brass section that bridge Southern soul, R&B, gospel inflections and touches of funk. On stage they present a repertoire that ranges from the energy of Half the City and Sea of Noise to the more psychedelic hues of The Alien Coast, and through the more intimate textures of Young Sick Camellia and Angels in Science Fiction, without losing the sense of groove or the clarity of the arrangements.
The set is built around Janeway’s expressive singing, carefully crafted climaxes, and breaks that give the brass room to breathe, producing a collective sound that prioritises dynamics and cohesion. It is an invitation to follow their trajectory from retro soul to more contemporary atmospheres, carried by crisp bass lines, enveloping keyboards and brass that trace the melodic line. Special guests will complete the bill.
