New Model Army headline Roundhouse, London, on 13 December 2026. Formed in Bradford in the early ’80s, the band around singer-guitarist Justin Sullivan shapes its sets with a direct energy, somewhere between post-punk and alternative rock threaded with folk impulses. Expect a mix of older, razor-sharp numbers and more recent songs that play on dynamics and tension: driving rhythms that pound without brute force, guitars at times cutting, at others airy, and that voice that carries political, social and intimate lyrics. Milestones like Vengeance, The Ghost of Cain and Thunder and Consolation converse with Between Dog and Wolf, From Here and Unbroken, in songwriting that favors narrative and contrast.
Special guest The Chameleons open the evening with their expansive, melodic guitar-driven post-punk. Formed near Manchester in the early ’80s and led by Mark Burgess, they weave dark yet tuneful atmospheres built on pronounced basslines and interlacing guitar echoes. Their classics Script of the Bridge, What Does Anything Mean? Basically and Strange Times provide the foundation for a set that brings back that characteristic atmospheric tension, between British indie and introspective guitar pop. It’s a meeting of two schools that helped shape the English scene, on the same night.
