Shaun Ryder - Happy Mondays, and Fridays, and Saturdays, and Sundays

Shaun Ryder brings his spoken-word tour to Epic Studios, Norwich, on 23 September 2026. Frontman of Happy Mondays and Black Grape, he helped shape the Madchester era with a blunt turn of phrase and a talk-sung delivery that folded post-punk, baggy grooves and club culture into the same frame. From Bummed and Pills ’n’ Thrills and Bellyaches to Black Grape’s It’s Great When You’re Straight… Yeah and beyond, Ryder’s path has mixed studios, raves and TV sets, with detours like Gorillaz’s Dare.

This new show supports his book Happy Mondays - and Fridays and Saturdays and Sundays. On stage, Ryder digs into the stories behind the records, the chaos and the craft, swapping riffs for memories, side-stories and unlikely truths told with his dry northern bite. Expect reflections on the Mondays’ early Salford years, the Black Grape pivot, and the long, messy, funny afterlife of a career lived in public.

No band, no frills: just a mic, a stack of tales and a distinctive voice running through the soundtrack, the missteps and the close calls that came with them.
