Info
Formed on the streets of Dublin in 1985, Hothouse Flowers forged a sound where alternative rock meets folk rock, soul, gospel and strands of Irish traditional music. Led by Liam Ó Maonlaí with Fiachna Ó Braonáin and Peter O’Toole, the band moves easily between driving grooves and hushed ballads, carried by piano, acoustic textures and close harmonies. Early records like People (1988), Home (1990) and Songs from the Rain (1993) set the tone for songs that lean into warmth and rhythmic pulse, before a return in the late 1990s with Born and later releases including Into Your Heart.
On 20 December 2026 at The Lemon Tree in Aberdeen, Hothouse Flowers bring that blend to the stage: earthy rhythms, stacked harmonies and melodies shaped as much by Irish tradition as by classic rock. The set draws across eras, with room for gospel inflections, folk motifs and open-ended interplay. Liam Ó Maonlaí’s voice stays at the centre while the core lineup—Ó Maonlaí, Fiachna Ó Braonáin, Dave Clarke, Martin Brunsden and the returning Peter O’Toole—pushes arrangements in the moment, balancing energetic passages with intimate, acoustic turns.
