Info
Allison Russell brings her folk, Americana and roots songbook to Massey Hall, Toronto, on October 23, 2026. Montreal-born, she moves between guitar, banjo and clarinet, with clear, unadorned vocals at the center. After early chapters with Po’ Girl, Birds of Chicago and the collective Our Native Daughters, her solo path took shape with Outside Child (2021), a cycle of songs anchored in memory and reconstruction, then The Returner (2023), where she leans into warmer grooves and a subtle soul current. On stage, she draws a through line from acoustic intimacies to more rhythmic swells, letting the writing stay upfront while the arrangements breathe.
Very special guest Elisapie opens a northern window onto the evening. Raised in Salluit, Nunavik, she weaves Inuktitut, English and French into a pop-folk frame with an indie hue. From There Will Be Stars to The Ballad of the Runaway Girl, and Inuktitut (2023) which revisits rock and pop staples in her own language, her repertoire pairs stripped arrangements with a strong sense of narrative. Expect a set grounded in place and memory, a natural counterpoint to Russell’s wide-angled Americana.
