Info
Sigur Rós bring their atmospheric post‑rock to Bord Gáis in Dublin on 6 September 2026, joined by the Ulster Orchestra. Formed in Reykjavík around Jón Þór “Jónsi” Birgisson and Georg Hólm, the band shapes long arcs of sound with bowed guitar, patient crescendos and Jónsi’s falsetto sung in Icelandic or a phonetic language. Their writing blends ambient textures with a minimalist sense of space, often opening onto strings and brass that widen the horizon of each piece. In an orchestral setting, those elements shift scale: strings thicken the drones, brass underlines the surges, woodwinds and percussion add detail to the rise and fall.
The set draws from across their catalogue, from Ágætis byrjun and ( ) through Takk…, Valtari, Kveikur and Átta, reworked to fit a larger ensemble without losing the band’s quiet tension and slow-burning dynamics. Known for adapting their music to different stage formats, Sigur Rós treat the orchestra as an extension of their palette, letting motifs breathe and layering harmonies rather than chasing volume. Expect a concert where the contours of each track are redrawn by the Ulster Orchestra and the group’s sense of time and texture, at Bord Gáis in the heart of Dublin.
