Info

On 18 July 2026 at Live at Castle Mills in Kilkenny, Matt Berninger steps out from The National to focus on his songwriter side. Known for a deep baritone and unhurried phrasing, he writes close-up stories of relationships, family and city life, carried by sombre indie rock with discreet folk and alternative shades. Alongside two decades with the Brooklyn-formed band, his detours include EL VY with Brent Knopf (Return to the Moon) and a first solo record, Serpentine Prison, where restrained arrangements leave space for voice and lyrics. His set moves between slow-burn ballads, tense mid-tempo grooves and a few pieces reworked from across his projects.

Also on the bill, Lisa O’Neill brings a clear Irish folk line to the evening. Raised in County Cavan and based in Dublin, she crafts spare, narrative songs for guitar or banjo, led by a low, textured voice. From Has an Album to All of This Is Chance, her records weave traditional forms with contemporary writing, attentive to everyday detail and social observation. Heard in film and television, her music keeps its direct, unadorned delivery on stage.
