Born in Copenhagen in the early 80s as Disneyland After Dark, D-A-D has moved from cowpunk sparks to a heavier, melodic hard rock. Around Jesper Binzer’s vocals and guitar, with Jacob “Cobber” Binzer on guitar, Stig Pedersen on bass and Laust Sonne on drums, the group builds on direct riffs and structured choruses. From Call of the Wild and D.A.D. Draws a Circle to No Fuel Left for the Pilgrims, then Riskin’ It All, Helpyourselfish, Everything Glows and A Prayer for the Loud, their catalogue traces a steady shift toward a darker, weightier sound, while keeping the songs tight and to the point.
Stockholm’s The Baboon Show, formed in 2003, plays a straight-ahead punk rock that mixes 77 energy, garage tension and power pop accents. Led by singer Cecilia Boström, the band stacks short, tense and melodic tracks driven by a dry, cutting guitar, a no-frills rhythm section and lyrics circling power dynamics, social issues and political critique. From early releases like Don’t Don’t Don’t to Punk Rock Harbour, The World Is Bigger Than You, Radio Rebelde and God Bless You All, plus the Havana Sessions detour, the quartet—Cecilia Boström, Niclas Svensson, Frida Ståhl and Simon Dahlberg—keeps its edge on record and on stage.
