GWAR lands at Burton Cummings Theatre in Winnipeg on December 1, 2026. Formed in Richmond, Virginia in 1984, the collective fuses thrash, heavy metal and a punk-hardcore edge with black humor and a grotesque sci‑fi mythology carried by costumed characters. On stage, the group builds a chaotic comic‑book universe where satire, stage blood and DIY creature effects collide with dense riffs and gang vocals. The set can roam across eras, from Hell‑O and Scumdogs of the Universe to The Blood of Gods and The New Dark Ages, shifting from punk sprint to mid‑tempo stomp without dropping the storyline. After the death of founder Dave Brockie, vocals are handled by Michael Bishop as Blöthar, flanked by a rotating crew of players and makers from the Slave Pit, the workshop behind the masks, props and scenery. Hard, chugging guitars, thrash breaks, call‑and‑response hooks and theatrical interludes pace the show and tighten the narrative. GWAR’s live format treats the room like both battlefield and playground, mixing provocation, satire and noisy release within a disciplined, effects‑heavy production.
