Discover Echoes of the Tides by Yo‑E Ryou, presented at the Musée du Quai Branly — Jacques Chirac on 11 March 2026 at 9:30 AM in the music box of the Plateau de Collections. This work unfolds through sound, breath, and duration, exploring spaces of encounter and resonance between bodies, water, and memory.
Living on Jeju Island, South Korea, the artist engaged with the knowledge of the Haenyeo, a community of women divers. Without seeking to reproduce what appears on the surface, Yo‑E Ryou, recipient of the 2025 sound residency, attends to what operates in depth: waiting, rest, breathing, and return. These knowledges are indeed transmitted outside any written form, in rhythm with the tides, gestures of affection, and shared work and rest.
Rather than offering a figurative depiction of their practices, her installation invites a different mode of attention: a perception of what is felt before it becomes visible, and known by the body before it is named.
Here, breath is not merely a sound but a form of relation — a way of being with others, human and "non‑human," over time. There is neither beginning nor end; only the slow unfolding of presence.
