Roméo & Juliette will be at the Zénith Nantes Métropole on April 29, 2028 at 6:30 p.m. Translated into 18 languages and performed in 20 countries, the show has established itself in French musical theatre. Launched in 2001 at the Palais des Congrès, the production was originally embodied by Damien Sargue and Cécilia Cara. It gives audiences the opportunity to see this original duo back on stage.
For Cécilia Cara, returning to Paris with Roméo & Juliette is moving. “I was chosen at 15 to play Juliet, a defining role that marked the beginning of my life as an artist. Rediscovering it twenty years later, alongside Damien, was a powerful moment, as if we had never been apart but had been enriched by everything life has given us. This return has symbolic value: closing the circle, coming back to where it all began, with 25 years of experience that now feed the characters in a different way. The story continues to bring people together, to convey love and emotion. It is a joy to be reunited with Juliet and the French audience.”
Continuing, Damien Sargue adds: “Returning to Paris after having taken Roméo & Juliette around the world, notably to Asia, has a particular resonance. This role has accompanied me since 2001, and to revisit it today alongside Cécilia, with the perspective and maturity that time has given us, gives this adventure a new depth.”
With more than 9 million records sold and songs tied to French pop culture—such as “Les Rois du monde” and “Aimer”—Roméo & Juliette has left its mark on the history of musical theatre. For nearly 25 years the show has traveled across cultures and adapted to the changes of its era: new techniques, new staging codes, new audience expectations. True to its DNA while renewing itself, it retains its songs, its aesthetic and its sense of spectacle.
For Gérard Presgurvic, Roméo & Juliette remains a universal and timeless love story that raises a current question: how far are we willing to go for love? Shakespeare answers it with a force that crosses the centuries, and it is this emotion that we continue to share with audiences. Reuniting Damien Sargue and Cécilia Cara more than twenty years after their debuts brings a new depth to the show, nourished by the experience they have gained.
In 2027, Roméo & Juliette returns in a rethought version, incorporating new generational codes while preserving its essence: a timeless story, universal emotions and a distinctive musical signature. This comeback is accompanied by a new cast, new costumes and a new scenography, redesigned for today without altering the show’s DNA.
