Tinariwen

Tinariwen bring their desert-born guitar sound to Studio 919 in Victoria on Thursday, September 3, 2026. Formed by Tuareg musicians from the Sahara, the band helped shape what many call desert blues — they name it assuf, a Tamasheq word that carries longing, distance and the pull of wide-open spaces. On stage, electric guitars coil around handclaps and subtle percussion, riffs settle into hypnotic patterns, and rough-edged voices carry stories of freedom, exile and hope. The songs shift between loping grooves and quiet breaks, letting the poetry lead the pulse.

Years of roaming have honed their interplay without smoothing out the grain. Guitar lines answer each other across the mix, bass figures anchor the dust-blown textures, and choral refrains draw the room into their circular flow.
