Roberto Alagna brings to the stage Caruso, a Voice for Eternity, a musical fresco that blends fiction and reality. The tenor traces the destiny of Enrico Caruso and his decisive relationship with Giulio Gatti-Casazza, the emblematic opera director. From admiration springs friendship, soon disrupted by envy, jealousy and ambition. Set against the backdrop of the Gilded Age and immigration—amid gangs, inequalities and power struggles—the narrative also weaves a love story in which one couple is formed as another falls apart. At the heart of this modern tragedy, faith, loyalty and the possibility of redemption open a breach in the turmoil.
Alagna drives the action across a wide musical spectrum: operatic arias and pop songs, blues and rock, metal and electronic, waltzes and tarantellas. Solos, duets, trios, ensembles and choirs intertwine over a symphonic accompaniment to give shape to the characters and to the turns of the story. Caruso is a portrait of life and voice, conceived for the stage and led by the energy of a performer with a taste for lyrical storytelling. To be seen on 29 January 2027 at Confluence, Avignon.
