Dance Gavin Dance

On 1 September 2026, Dance Gavin Dance will perform at Melkweg in Amsterdam. The Sacramento-based band has been carving out its own corner of the post-hardcore landscape since 2005, where experimental rock, progressive riffs and funk and R&B accents converge. Guitarist and central figure Will Swan is responsible for melodic, often playful guitar lines, while Jon Mess supplies the raw screams. These contrast with the clean vocals that open the songs up toward catchy hooks and unexpected turns.

On stage it's all about dynamics: sharp tempo shifts, head-nodding grooves and math-rock-like patterns that grind without sacrificing the flow. From the early chaos of Downtown Battle Mountain to later material such as Artificial Selection, Afterburner and Jackpot Juicer, the set balances technical precision with immediate energy. Through the layers, pop-tinged choruses and occasional psychedelic hues cut through, keeping each song in motion.
