Benwal - Montréal

Benwal, the alias of Dutch DJ and producer Gijs van Ringen, arrives at Newspeak in Montreal on May 2, 2026. From Groningen, he shapes a sound at the intersection of hard trance, hard house, rave and house, with a clear ’90s imprint: sweeping euphoric pads, pronounced build‑ups and taut rhythms, designed as much for the club as for festival formats. Active under this alias since 2022, he made his mark at Pleinvrees Festival and Eurosonic Noorderslag in early 2023, before playing Dutch stages such as A State of Trance, Dauwpop, Zomerparkfeest, Lowlands and Into the Woods during ADE in 2024. In the studio he develops his textures and sense of movement, notably alongside Jonathan Kruizenga, and has released several tracks: “Just Go” and “Aydee” in 2023 (the latter on Berlin’s Speedmaster Records), followed by “Rush (I Don’t Wanna Wait)” in 2024 on Club Heart Broken. At Newspeak he unfolds a set steeped in rave culture, made of long transitions, melodic euphoria and driving, taut percussion.
