Minimal Music Festival 2026 - KKAARREENNIINNAA + FUJI|||||||||||TA

Info

Double bill: FUJI|||||||||||TA + Charlemagne Palestine, Oren Ambarchi, Daniel O’Sullivan.

Taking place on 17 April 2026 at 18h30 at Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ, a concert is also a ritual, and that applies to this double bill. With his stuffed animals and colourful scarves, Charlemagne Palestine is known for ritualistic minimalism. Palestine joins forces with two younger-generation sound artists - guitarist Oren Ambarchi and multi-instrumentalist Daniel O’Sullivan - to craft a new rendition of his work Karenina. Their performance will be preceded by a set from Japanese sound artist FUJI|||||||||||TA, who uses his voice and a hand-fabricated pipe organ to create soundscapes.

Composer, performer and visual artist Charlemagne Palestine, an exponent of the New York experimental school, originally created Karenina (1997) as a solo work for Indian harmonium and voice. It is drone music that reflects his interest in Indian improvisation and synagogue chanting. In this new version by the trio, Karenina takes a new form.
